The La Quinta Resort And Club Is Still A Celebrity Hideaway

Touted as the "original hideaway," the La Quinta Resort & Club has been a celebrity retreat since the 1920s. It was then that some of the earliest "stars" of the Hollywood galaxy began heading away from the bustling city and into the gorgeous Southern California hills.

La Quinta California was "discovered" by a businessman named Walter H. Morgan who located the property upon which the La Quinta Resort & Club was built (all 1,400 acres of it!) and set to work designing a structure that worked with the gorgeous landscape. He named his estate La Quinta after the nickname given to the region in the 1700s, and was soon inviting the likes of Greta Garbo, Frank Capra and Clark Gable to stay at his property.

Soon, there were too many Hollywood "escapees" for the one property and they began to convert La Quinta California into their own private paradise, or playground according to many. They began having world-class golf courses developed in the area, installing tennis courts and swimming pools, and establishing the same fine dining and cultural institutions that sprang up around them back in Los Angeles.

The History Continues

The old saying that "the more things change, the more they stay the same," really does apply to La Quinta Resort & Club. Because the property was originally chosen by the Hollywood elite for its fine amenities and convenient location, there are still many who head to the site specifically because it is so handy. Chez Michel in Villefranche-sur-Mer - Chez Michel's is a reasonably sized, reasonably priced French restaurant serving unbelievably authentic Provencal food.
